It has been said innumerable times that the only way to create the millions of jobs this country requires, is to develop a national entrepreneurial attitude and way of thinking.
My thoughts on this, with the government stating that it is putting up billions of rands to try and create jobs is this : How about the government concentrating on setting up entrepreneurial projects surrounding every township and squatter camp in the country. Provide some finance as well as skilled people able to develop small business plans and provide the necessary advice to would be entrepreneurs as how to turn a profit and succeed in their ventures. This would build business confidence in the deprived masses, and boost employment through the roof. Furniture making companies, build steel windows and doors, make concrete blocks, manufacture kitchen cupboards, make shoes, belts, clothes, formulate dishwashing liquids, perfume, make toilet paper, manufacture hats and caps, make crockery such as plates and cups, manufacture concrete door and window lintels, concrete sinks, concrete drainage channels, road kerbs, fix cars, trucks etc, do auto electrical work, set up laundries and ironing facilities, manufacture and assemble wooden roof trusses, make steel gates and fencing - the list can go on forever, only limited by a person’s imagination . Make people build their own houses under guidance of experienced builders. As seen above many of the house elements can be manufactured in the same Township.
In my mind such a use of government money can only reduce the unemployment rate exponentially.
Better than relying on big business and government to create jobs. What an unbelievable opportunity for real skills development in the underprivileged, unemployed and desperate.
