So you’re a social butterfly, always up for a party, and love to meet new people and dance the night away? I certainly am. If you’re travelling to Johannesburg, you’re headed to the right place. I like to consider jo’burg as the New York of South Africa in terms of nightlife and entertainment. Let’s take a journey through the hot spots of you will find there.
If you’re a fan of live music, especially jazz, this is the place for you. Bassline opened way back in 1994, and in 15 years has hosted over 3000 concerts! It has featured many of South Africa’s most talented musicians such as Zim Ngqwana, Vusi Mahlasela, Paul Hammer, the late Moses Molelekwa and Jimmy Dludlu. It has also produced the annual Africa Day and New Year’s concerts for Johannesburg.
I have to say, Montecasino is one of my favourite places to visit when I travel to Johannesburg. Modelled on a Tuscan village, it is as gorgeous inside as it is outside. Its ceiling is modelled as an ambient, pretty night sky, and gives one the feeling of walking through a lovely village, rather than the stereotypical loud and bright casinos. Montecasino has pretty much everything to cater to your shopping and entertainment needs. With dozens of stores selling numerous items, theatres, cinemas and live music. Obviously the name gives away the main attraction-it’s huge casino! At a massive 8500m squared, with over 78 gambling tables, this casino is open 24 hours a day.
6(six) Cocktail bar:
This recently renovated cocktail bar is one of Johannesburg’s favourite hangout spots. Known for its specialty cocktails, it brings in trendy crowds from around town. Six is the perfect place to hang out with friends, indulge in a few cheeky cocktails (my personal favourites-delicious Daiquiris and Margaritas), while enjoying some funky music. What makes this hot spot even better? It is open 7 days a week until 2 am!
If you’re looking for somewhere to party with a more ‘adult like’ kind of crowd, take a drive to Movida. Girls have to be over 23 and guys over 25. It’s a chic and upmarket club, with lots of entertainment. Its unique cabaret shows with sexy outfits and dancing makes this club unique and definitely one for the boys. Girls love it too of course!
Another one for the boys? Despite its name and connotations, Hooters is a hoot (pun intended!) for both guys and girls. The first Hooters franchise I ever visited had an awesome vibe. Obviously, the scantily clad, gorgeous waitresses are the main attraction, but they have they have a pretty tasty menu to boot. Classic pub meals like chicken wings, curly fries and burgers. What’s more-its kid friendly-in fact, kids eat free on Sundays!
