The author of this Machiavellian statement is of course Joseph Goebbels, Adolf Hitler's minister of propaganda. The wiley Goebbels here struck a certain psychological truth. Uncritical minds and the "unlettered", when battered with the same ongoing propaganda, eventually accept it as the given truth, especially when simple solutions to complicated problems are promoted. (Let us not fool ourselves, the Apartheid regime played this game masterfully)
In Berlin at this moment a new exhibition called "Topography in Terror" has opened. People from all over the world are streaming in. No entrance fee is charged and, hats off to the German government, a merciless look is given to Germany's Nazi past. The visitors serpent their way from one horror to the next in thoughtful silence. The exhibition is chilling.
Reading Goebbel's crafty statement I immediately thought of the ANC government. "This " I thought to myself "is an ANC mantra. " How often do we hear that "the ANC is not corrupt". Jocob Zuma, Gwede Matashe and other ANC acolytes, never tire to tell us that yes the ANC is breezing along and that this fine party is "not corrupt"
Occasionally we hear some mutterings that the ANC is going to clean itself from within. There is an old saying, that the fish starts to stink form the head. If the ANC is going to cleanse itself from within, they are going to have to start with Jacob Zuma who has managed, with a little help from his friends, to sweep more then 700 charges of fraud and corruption under the carpet. As yet I see no such thing happening.
Marie-Antoinette, the hapless French queen, is accused of saying "Let them eat cake" when she heard of the starving masses on the streets. Whether she did or did not say this is besides the point.
"Let them eat cake" betrays a mind-set where the one with his bum in the butter could not care a rat's tail how the others are scrapping by. Only a man with this mind-set could build a Nkandla in the poorest and most AIDs infested part of SA.
But back to the exhibition. We all know that the Nazis were butchers and killers. Less well known is the fact that they were also common stinking thieves. They used the methods so vigorously recommended by Julius Malema. In political parlance it is called "expropriation."
When one follows Malema's zigzag political course one almost has to giggle. He was prepared to "die" for Zuma, but quickly gave up that idea. (I do not blame him, I certainly do not want to die for Zuma-does Julius have two functioning neurons in that thing called his head?) After he left/was chucked out of the ANC he suddenly became Zuma's "Monster".
He has spent much of his public life insulting the DA and its leaders in very ugly ways , when he (voila) publically ruminated about joining the D.A.! No flea jump is too low for our Julius. Money and power are his motors. As Henry Kissinger succulently said, "Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac".
Why are blogs popping up in News24 in support of Malema? I am personally convinced that neither Zuma, Malema or their supporters read books, and certainly not history books. Why do I say this? In all they do and say I do not see one ounce of a sense of history.
They honestly do believe that they are re-inventing the wheel, whereby they are only pityfully repeating failed and disastrous history.
SA needs investments and jobs. The ANC corruption stories are spreading like bush-fires and the astute investors are going elsewhere. Different governments from Britain to Danemark are curtailing their aid programmes to SA, because the aid money is landing in the wrong pockets.
Malema's mantra, i.e. expropriation, also works like the pest or typhus fever. When you just hear about it you start to run in the opposite direction. Bang goes jobs, bang goes stability.
I was not born into the D.A.; I was pushed into the D.A.by the ANC's incompetence and corruptions. To get out of our present mess we nees 21st century education, investments, jobs and visionary leaders who are incorruptible.
When the ANC called the world as their witness to all the injustices and unfairnesses of the Aparheid world they promised domocracy and justice. What they have delivered is stupidity and corruption.
"If you tell a lie big enough and keep on repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and / or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers ro repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State"
