Over the years since the so called "Corporal Punishment" had been abolished in all South African Schools, one has to agree that this was a BIG MISTAKE !!!!
We constantly hear how our Education System is failing our Learners and how our Teachers have to face each day the literal verbal abuse of "TORTURE" that our Educators have to endure from the blatant DISRESPECT and ILL-DISCIPLINED manner in which the Learners dish out to them each day.
I am now referring to all HIGH SCHOOL students who seem to have this new found "ATTITUDE" when they reach the age of 16 years old and find themselves either in Grades 10-12.
There is no more RESPECT for the Teacher in the classrooms. Ask any Teacher in the profession and you will be amazed how they manage to continue to try and teach these UNRULY students.
Not all students have this "Bad Attitude" towards the system and the teachers, but one has to admit that there is a serious problem related to the lack of Respect and Discipline in High Schools........................and all because of the so called "Corporal Punishment" that had been taken away?
Yes ! There have been many cases heard of how the Teachers take the matter too seriously and end up scarring students and humiliating and demoralizing our children by issuing Corporal Punishment.
If proper procedures and structures are put into place for UNRULY BEHAVIOUR students , and need to be disciplined accordingly, we could have a far better situation within the classes and in the schools ! And, NO !!! Definitely NOT the mickey mouse "DETENTION" tactic after school or on Saturday.............the students just laugh at this and don't even attend, they don"t care, now do they?
We all know that it starts at HOME ! Then it filters into the school and then into Society! We all need to step up and take accountability for our personal actions, each and every single Student, Teacher, and Parent!
Do we want our homes, schools and society to DISINTEGRATE into a sad state of affairs where "NOBODY GIVES A DAMN" ????
Something has to be done................and the sooner the better!
