It amazes me how the ANC continues to make the so called "land issue" such a big priority.
History has proven that this really is not such a pressing issue as these politicians make it seem.
Tens of thousands of hectares of land have already been purchased by this government, and yet hardly any of the land is utilised, yet alone even occupied by the recipients.
Surely this simple fact alone proves that the beneficiaries did not have any real big desire to own the land in the first place.
Surely the big issues a lot of noise should be made about are issues like health, education, crime, etc. What I mean by this is, should the ANC not rather concentrate on REAL issues than populist fabricated issues. (Or does the advancement of South African people perhaps not suit their real agenda?)
The issue of the lack of black commercial farmers can easily be addressed, by identifying willing black farmers and helping establish them.
This could easily and cheaply be achieved by merely purchasing land on the open market, and providing assistance to establish these guys.
There is more than enough will out there amongst white commercial farmers to assist those showing a will to succeed. There is more than enough land currently available to purchase, on the open market.
Personal experience of land reform has been a very negative one for me.
In he beginning most of us were pretty fateful about the whole thing, and the attitude was if your land was claimed, get your money from it and move on. There was very little resistance.
But over time the it became apparent there was no real will on the part of the ANC to fasttrack the issue, to bring it to a point where it was resolved. The whole process suddenly stalled to almost a halt a few years back.
Hundreds of willing sellers were suddenly put on hold, there was simply no more communication.
It became apparent 99% of the land taken was never even utilised, and this is where an attitude of resistance to the whole issue developed.
Why give up my livelihood, when I'm not even helping anybody else in the process?
Take my farm - and then simply gut it ... why, who benefits?
It has been stalled so long by this regime that currently farmers are buying claimed land for good prices, it is as though the issue no longer exists.
If farmers wait for this regime to start dealing with this so called land issue, agriculture will come to a grinding halt. Luckily the okes are resilient and just carry on - the attitude now is there is no other choice.
Pointless in trying to deal with a regime that is uninterested in even communicating with you.
So my hope is that the ANC stops playing with the land issue purely as a political toy.
It is costing thousands of jobs, it is preventing the development of a strong black commercial farming sector.
They should start dealing with agriculture honestly and constructively.
The white farmers they are trying to hurt by stalling this hold issue will always land on their feet again somewhere else if our land is grabbed, the revenge the regime gets by hurting us will be shortlived.
The will for revenge is going to hurt the people that keep voting for this regime, and this hurt is going to be long term, very long term.
