Time was when these raging debates between the Theists and the Atheists were entertaining, amusing, interesting and sometimes even educational.
Of late however they are nothing but a complete bore and the appearance of ‘another’ one on MyNews24 is about as welcome and fun as the next sniff from a long-suffering victim of post-nasal drip.
These interminably repetitive pieces written by many of the same people over and over again to make the same points over and over again do indeed bring to mind Einstein’s oft quoted missive about the definition of insanity. Yet it seems not to dawn on the people quoting it for the umpteenth time that possibly they are perfect examples of that wise man’s succinct explanation.
All of you folk do seem to take yourselves all way to seriously and have way too much idle time on your hands. Your insistence on trying to get the ‘other’ side to see their world from your perspective is indeed not only bordering on insanity but fully crosses the line into the realms of arrogance too. Why should any of you care who thinks like you do or believes or does not believe in the same things that you do? What difference does it make, save inflating your already overbearing egos?
All attempts at profundity are inversely proportional to the infantile, immature and egotistical end result. Has anyone, since the inception of MyNews24, ‘converted’ any of the other side to your own side? I thought not. Yet you gather here like children at break to fling insults at each other, some more eloquently than others but insulting just the same. Maybe if you all keep trying you will convert each other and next week will be back debating from the other new enlightened perspective trying to convert each other back?
Insanity indeed.
Why do all of you feel the need to ‘know’ ‘everything’ and then to convince everybody else that you do indeed ‘know’ ‘everything’? How does what you call knowledge or faith change or improve anything other than your own peace of mind or ego? Both sides look down their rather long and wooden noses at each other thinking the other side is stupid, delusional or even dishonest without realizing you’re looking into a mirror while you do? Okay, maybe a crazy warped, fairground mirror but essentially both your arguments have the same massive holes in them and neither of you can see the holes for the gaps in your own logic.
The faithful claim there is an overseeing deity but cannot explain from where this deity miraculously appeared. The faithless claim that a big bang originated all matter but cannot rationally explain what existed before. The believers insist you must have faith. The nonbelievers insist that there was nothing before. Neither sees the irrationality of their own illogical, evidence-less standpoints while pointing out the illogical, evidence-less standpoint of the other side?
Is that not another definition of insanity? Or is that just vanity and ego?
What is wisdom? It seems you all claim to have it but what is it in fact that you really know? All you know are the thoughts thought up by somebody else a lot more assertive than you who has got you to view their world through your eyes. What original, profound, new or progressive thoughts have any of you EVER had? I thought not.
Why are all of you so desperate to ‘know’? What difference will it make in your life? Really? Why are all of you so clamorous in your doggedness to foist your own ill-conceived and considered opinions onto anyone else?
Is it not good enough to simply be? It is not good enough to simply recognize the privilege of life and make the most of it no matter where or how it originated? Is it not good enough to respect all life as equally serendipitous and uniformly significant as the essence of you? Is it not good enough to simply make the best of it and do the best you can in profound recognition and celebration of the phenomenon in which you find yourself?
To behave in a particular way because you perceive there to be reward for doing so or to not behave in a certain manner because you believe there to be no reward or consequences is an equally shallow, irresponsible and meaningless way to squander this experience we call life.
Why is it not good enough to simply do the right thing because it is the right thing to do without seeking or expecting reward or recognition?
Instead of worrying about everyone else, why don’t you all focus on your own lives and doing something positive with the gift of each day for what it is not and not trying to rationalize anything beyond that?
Instead of gathering on the same roundabouts everyday and pulling faces at each other, why don’t you all live?
You are all so busy arguing, that life and the important things in it are passing you by. Each minute is jam-packed full of 60 seconds. Use each one. Don’t waste a single second on something of no consequence.
Simply be until you no longer are. There is no need to understand it to marvel in and celebrate it.
