Blind loyalty

04 May 2009, 14:15

Dear Editor,

It is disappointing that the people of South African came out in numbers to vote the ANC in to power for the fourth consecutive term despite its flaws and blunders.

I failed to understand why until I asked those who proudly say they have voted for the ruling organisation and most of them used the word "LOYALTY".

Loyalty in a sense that they don't see themselves neglecting and letting down the party that brought them human dignity, freedom in all forms and mostly it is a token of saying thanks to Tata uMadiba for fighting the cruel regime.

I fully believe that an intellect like uMadiba would condemn this habit from the bottom of his heart because he is a man of integrity who wouldn't be pleased for people to be exploited in his name.

It is at this point that this loyalty concept puzzles me, because the very same people that they are loyal to are not doing that in return.

Statistics show how high the level of poverty, corruption by the office bearers and that of unemployment is in South Africa particularly in the rural areas where this loyalty concept rules the most.

How can people trade their votes in the name of loyalty to people who are no longer serving them but their own stomachs and enriching themselves.

We can have many opposition parties but none of them will succeed until we break this barrier of "blind loyalty" that seems to rule the people's minds and people need to be taught about governance in order for them not to fall victims of food parcels in return of their votes.

How painful it is to see young and old living in the same conditions of famine yet they claim to have voted for the people's movement.

South Africans, let's move on and pass the Revolutionary Stage and not allow the ANC cronies to be stinking rich at the expense of the poor and the ignorant who cannot distinguish between loyalty and blind loyalty. Amandla!

The Lady
