Census workers' 'behaviour disgusting'

Dear Editor,

I am disgusted with the behaviour of the people doing the census. Of course we are not at home during the day; we have to work to keep our economy going.

On my way to and from work I see them sitting on the grass outside houses chatting to each other.

Even when they watch me drive in and know I am home they never bother to come over. Even worse I have seen them rubbing out info on the forms and rewriting it.

I then received a letter telling me that they have been four times and that they will be around again on the 23rd at 09:00 or gave me a number to reschedule if that did not suit me. Well I waited until 14:00 and nothing.

I then tried to phone, but the number is never answered so I eventually left a message to say that I was available on Friday morning at 08:00 and they could come then. Again nothing and I eventually left late for work just after 09:00.

I am now away for the weekend so I guess I am not going to be counted. I think this whole thing has been a farce to gain intelligence: I find it interesting that we have seen a significant spike in crime in our area since these people have been hanging around and have had to schedule an emergency meeting of the community forum to address this.

It is also concerning how many people have been badgered and bullied to answer the details of their income and financial status even after they have refused to give this information.

I never had an issue and was looking forward to participating in the census, but the more I see the more I am beginning to wonder. I hope we are not going to see a sudden spike in crime against those who naively participated in this census.
