Dear Editor,
The furthest thing from my mind as a child was technology and boys. I was too busy playing outside and baking cupcakes for pocket money.
Boy, how things have changed, indeed!
NSW Community Service Minister Linda Burney stated that girls as young as 13 are sending sexually explicit images to their boyfriends from their cell phones, supposedly thinking it an "innocent joke or harmless flirting".
These kids are still what my grandma would have called "wet behind the ears". Children, that's what they are, young and impressionable.
A phrase form Friedrich Nietzsche's The Madman comes to mind, he says: "Is not night continually closing in on us?"
If a child or young person reaches the conclusion that it's okay to partake in "sexting" as it's called, or that it's wholesome to sleep around while they're technically still young enough to be reading Nancy Drew, where will it all end?
What adolescents perceive to be okay is often what they see around them.
Role model of the present ten to thirteen year olds is Vanessa Hudgens, star of High School Musical. Just last year she had to explain semi nude pictures of herself.
Where has conscience slipped to? Why are our children partaking in activities that are classified as child pornography by law?
