Saddam pics 'appalling'

24 May 2005, 09:04

I strongly disagree with the underwear photos of Saddam Hussein.

And the things that America can do and say are truly disgusting - for example, insulting and discrediting another human being or government.

No, I don't agree with anything that Saddam Hussein has done in his life and in the "best interest" of his country.

But the fact that everything he ever did, whether right or wrong, is seen as an attack on America and the world is absolute rubbish.

I don't see the sense in half the mayhem and murderous devastation caused by both Hussein and Bush or any other government for that matter.

The irony is that both of them claim to be doing the right thing while being guided by their 'God'.

If they claim to be such religious people, perhaps they should carefully rethink their strategies?

Hussein in his underwear illustrates he is a real man, with real needs and rights.

To show him in this light allows us to see a side of him that everyone has been denied.

Hussein is human, and needs to do what we all do. Why invade his private time? What right and pleasure has it given the Americans and all the people who hate and are threatened by him?

Whether we are Christian, Muslim, Buddhist or Hindu, we are all entitled to some dignity, privacy and integrity.

Bronwyn Peterson
