I REFER to the letter from Lou Corbitt in your Monday edition about the horrific tanker accident on Town Hill last week, and agree that not only should the existing arrestor bed be better maintained, but that Sanral must seriously consider building more arrestor beds on the lower half of Town Hill as well, where most of the truck accidents happen.
I have, through the newspaper, appealed to the traffic authorities on many occasions to build more arrestor beds on the lower section. If the brakes on a truck are going to fail, it will be on the lower half where the gradient is the steepest and the brakes will be the hottest.
A drive down Town Hill will reveal (by smell alone) that many drivers are using their service brakes as well. How many more runaway trucks must The Witness report on? There are several places on Town Hill where more arrestor beds could be built.
