Living in the Matrix called Religion

13 December 2012, 14:08

As a Christian, I cannot help wonder how my life would change if I decided to change my mind and become an “ex-Christian” as Anselan put it in his article titled “Ex-Christians: We do exist” http://www.news24.com/MyNews24/Ex-Christians-we-do-exist-20121205.  The author and some of the commentators give insight into what it is like:

·         Hanjo:  “after leaving religion behind, I have never felt as liberated and aware of the world, universe and humanity around me

·         Draculosus:  “Most miserable years of my life. Was also a struggle to deal with the fact that I'd been dooped into believe the lies for so long

·         Gert Swart:  “The freedom from religious indoctrination is amazing

·         Anselan:  “[Christians] are victims of their own psychological and intellectual trap - and the faulty truth-filtering system they have internalised” and “We [ex-Christians] have real stories to tell about the damage Christianity can do to ordinary lives and relationships

After reading this, it made me wonder what kind of world I’ve been living in, and I remembered those epic words by Morpheus in the Matrix:  “The Matrix is the wool that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth”.  Damn, I think I may have swallowed the wrong pill!

“Dooped”

Now who can blame me for being “dooped” for so long?  I mean I live in a world with 2.1 billion “bullshitters” (Anselan referring to Christians) and about another 2.8 billion “bullshitters” (Muslims, Hindus, Jews etc) that are “victims of their own psychological and intellectual trap and the faulty truth-filtering system they have internalised”.  Just listen to this “bullshitter”:

“My Christian faith gives me a perspective and security that I don’t think I would have otherwise: That I am loved.  That, at the end of the day, God is in control.  And my main responsibility is to love God with all of my heart, soul and mind, and to love my neighbour as myself.  Now, I don’t always live up to that standard, but it is a standard I am always pursuing.

My faith is also a great source of comfort to me.

Finally, I try to make sure that my faith informs how I live my life.  As a husband and as a father, my faith helps me to keep my eyes on the prize and focus on what is good and truly important”

Now this sounds like a fairly intelligent guy, as I thought I was.  So how is it that we as Christians (myself and Barrack Obama) were “dooped” while the likes of Hanjo, Anselan, Draculosus and Gert were able to apply their obviously greater minds, see the truth and be liberated from the Matrix that is Religion?  I mean, how can Barrack Obama (quoted above) be a “dooped bullshitter”?  Judging by all the comments on News24 the general consensus is that believers of a God have inferior intellect because they are incapable of seeing the truth when there are so many facts (assumptions in many cases) that are public knowledge.  If this is true then smart, educated people like Obama (Harvard and Columbia University graduate) must be deliberately lying to their people.  What kind of “damage is Christianity doing to ordinary lives of Americans” and indeed the rest of the world?

Obama vs Zuma

Now I’m starting to feel a real sense of national pride.  Most of the 1st world countries which consist mostly of God believing people and are run by God believing leaders are living in the Matrix.  The USA claims to be the land of the free, meanwhile it is the land of the oppressed, as most Americans live in “their own psychological and intellectual trap”.  Oppressors like Barrack Obama “bullshit” their people into believing lies and enforce Christian values on their people.  Just listen to this garbage:

And together, with your help and God’s grace, we will continue our journey forward and remind the world just why it is that we live in the greatest nation on earth. Thank you, America. God bless you. God bless these United States“.  - Obama’s 2012 victory speech

Most of us will agree that it is a greater injustice to steal a person’s freedom than to steal physical possessions from them.  Well I’m glad I’m South African for once because 1st world countries have their religious “bullshitters” stealing its peoples’ freedom while we South Africans have a government that only steals our tax money.  I’m willing to settle for the lessor of two evils so… Zuma for president!

Conclusion

To conclude, I’d like to quote one last “bullshitter” who is one of the most influential people in South African history and sadly another who has according to you been blinding the ordinary South African from seeing the truth:

Religion is one of the most important forces in the world. Whether you are a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist, a Jew, or a Hindu, religion is a great force, and it can help one have command of one's own morality, one's own behaviour, and one's own attitude” – Nelson Mandela
