Load shedding causing havoc nationwide

07 March 2014, 13:12

Municipality Watchdog request municipalities to inform its residents and consumers of planned or unplanned load shedding on their official websites and social media platforms; this comes after most of the country was left without electricity after 9am this morning as Eskom announced an emergency within its power grid.

We would also request municipalities to make their load shedding schedules available to us; this schedules will published on our social media platforms and available to the public. Alternatively visit http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za/ or contact Eskom on 086 003 7566 for more information on its load shedding schedule.  Municipal customers need to

contact their own municipalities for the correct schedules.

Eskom calls on consumers to urgently switch off geysers, pool pumps and all nonessential

appliances throughout the day to further reduce the impact of rotational load

shedding.

Customers are cautioned to treat all electrical connections as live during this period.

We anticipate that we will be load shedding until 22:00 tonight. However, should we

receive the necessary savings from all our customers and the situation improves, we will

terminate load shedding earlier, Eskom said.

Eskom had declared an emergency at 06:00 this morning and asked key industrial customers to reduce load by 10%.

For more information don’t hesitate to contact the Municipality Watchdog.
