I recently decided to do what I think every South African should do, that is, watch the much spoken about Long Walk to Freedom.
I watched it for a simple reason that I love movies and I have recently developed an insatiable palate for African history.
I was initially reluctant to watch it because I have been warning people to be careful of how, for some unknown reason, apartheid centred, pain inducing and anger invoking movies have a tendency to play just around the build up to voting periods.
I have previously been a victim of watching Sarafina on SABC and re-lived apartheid all over again that I voted for the ANC despite the fact that I was not completely happy with their conduct and performance.
However people grow and times change, I am also better than the Lesego I used to be, I am at the point in my life where I am aware of my pain body and how it enjoys to indulge in the feeling of pain, this is all thanks to the likes of Eckhart Tolle’s of this world, who have decided to share the wisdom they have acquired with the world.
I therefore indulged in Long Walk to Freedom with full awareness of myself and noticed the pain that was in both the persecutors and persecuted.
I however did not allow it to evoke any pain within me; I know this for sure because after watching this movie, I am still not going to vote for the ANC.
I do however think for those who have not been as fortunate to be taught about pain bodies, this movie can be anger inducing and pain stimulating to the point that it can drive you right into the arms of ANC for loyalty sake.
The beauty about this movie though is that it educates us about the history of this beautiful country, the journey we have been through and it’s because of this, that I think all the generation Y and Z should definitely see this movie, so they can understand this mother to child bond that people have with the ANC.
Most importantly I really think all the Hyenas that are currently governing us and calling themselves ANC members should also watch this and maybe this will remind them what the true objective of ANC was about.
Nelson Mandela‘s speech about walking a long walk to freedom really captivated me, in his speech he speaks about trying not to falter, missteps along the way, which is true of us people, we will always make mistakes, however, it is important not to repeat the same mistakes.
To be accused of corruption, rape, association with The Guptas landing in the Waterkloof, using tax payer’s money to create the Nkandla empire is no longer a mistake its carelessness.
Mandela also spoke about the fact that once you climb a hill, you find there are more hills to climb, and that is true, we have made great strides as a Nation, however we need to now climb the hills of Corruption, Poor Education for the Disadvantaged, Rape, Intolerance of Gay communities,
Availability of employment opportunities for white people and Distribution of our wealth in terms of minerals and land. It has become very vital for every South African not to linger as now more than ever, we will all be required to carry the batons in our pursue for freedom.
Whoever you are, ask yourself, what will you do to contribute towards Freedom in South Africa, ANC was able to defeat the monster called apartheid because of unity, we too can unite as South Africans to stand against our current monsters be it Abuse of Women and Children, Corruption, Rape, whatever monster haunts your heart, address it, serve your purpose in this world, Nelson Mandela served his.
