MTN Blackberry’s race to the bottom...
Seems to me that Blackberry (MTN) lost the plot. Lately they started to throttle several websites in order to cut down on BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) usage.
Somehow, they don’t grasp the fact that most Blackberry subscribers are (still) with them – not because they have the best phones in the market, but because the inclusive BIS is a good deal – or used to be...
Users will lately notice a normal connection speed to mobile sites (e.g. m.news24.com) but often a very slow and unreliable connection to normal websites such as www.news24.com. Sites where podcasts can be downloaded (e.g. RSG, 702, BBC etc.) are lately throttled to such an extent that it is for all practical purposes banned on your Blackberry.
MTN sneaked in this practice, unannounced and quietly. Nor do they give users the option to pay extra for downloading podcasts at normal speeds.
At a time where Blackberry is rapidly losing market share, it is mind boggling that they tamper with their only remaining advantage. It’s almost like they have a death wish?
My contract runs out soon. But not soon enough....
