The ten days of mourning the death Nelson Mandela are over and flags are now flying at full mast and I am back to my productive ways - life is gradually reverting to normal. That Madiba is no more has finally sunk in.
In the ten days of mourning which culminated in his burial on Sunday in his home village of Qunu the world outdid itself in claiming a piece of Madiba. Even those who yesterday called him a terrorist sang his praises. The same goes to those who cause much suffering in the world today, they spoke in glowing terms of Mandela.
Some even tried to write Mandela out of the ANC. Others such as poor Patrick Lekota claimed Madiba as his political tutor - this notwithstanding Lekota's failure as a politician.
Some sections of the media are trying to use Mandela as a whip against President Jacob Zuma and the ANC. The anti-Zuma and anti-ANC crusade has become so serious that they are now calling for Zuma to resign. This is their call notwithstanding the fact that Zuma is overwhelmingly supported, inside and outside the ANC.
That President Zuma will serve his terms in the ANC and government is beyond doubt or question.Until he has served his full terms, Zuma is going nowhere.
As for Mandela - he is the child of the ANC. Whatever he achieved or became is because of his ANC-ness. Outside the ANC Mandela would have been as ordinary and irrelevant as the South Africa opposition and their fellow travellers.
Madiba is the ANC and the ANC is Madiba. In the ANC and the people of South Africa Madiba's legacy will live on until the end of time.
