Malema to start a political party? Music to my ears.

13 June 2013, 07:18
People have their different opinions on Malema and what he stands for but just like with most politicians this young man has been defined by the media more than he has by his words or works we cannot doubt his capabilities he is the reason most the South African youth have become active in politics he made politics a platform that really recognized the youth. The ANC youth league has always been radical I remember during Mbalula's time he would take shots at the then president Thabo Mbeki.

When people speak of Malema's behaviour they should remember how he became known to the whole country because we all saw this man politically grow during Jacob Zuma's corruption and rape trials he was more radical than any other youth leader the party had seen. I for one I think he could have handled things better during his time as youth leader and could have said something’s in a better way but he didn't change through his leadership that's the interesting thing he was radical from his presidency as the youth leader till he was expelled and after.

We cannot deny the support he has in 2011 October 27 he raised a great issue that's facing the country today that of youth unemployment (the nationalization of mines issue is a more complex issue that I won’t go into detail about but I believe that the local people of South Africa should play a bigger role in the minerals of their country and if the mining bosses don't see that then maybe Government should intervene, I'm not talking about having 2 non executive black directors no I'm talking about making a real difference).

He had over 19000 young people marching from Johannesburg to Pretoria on those issues. During the “Kill the boer” song trial which even with my liberal mind I saw myself outside the South Gauteng High court with thousands of other people rallying behind the courts not to ban struggle songs. So one cannot doubt that this young man plays/played a big role in local politics his never being shy of controversy following the recent auctions and money laundering case but let’s not forget Zuma had +700 similar charges against him and he is president today (I'm not saying Julius will follow in Zuma's footsteps but I'm highlighting how court cases don't really affect political careers in SA).

The ruling party over the years has grown over confident and that is killing it. The task team has been disbanding so many branches of the party after Manguang to an extent that some believe anti Zuma camps are been destroyed .I believe will favour the ex ANCYL president if he is to start party since already the task team has disbanded 4 provinces and this has left members shaken and even in old gurus their those who support this young lion (even after expulsion some people like the current deputy president of the country publicly said the Malema issue could have been handled better).

Why does this make me happy as a liberal is because I believe the members that Malema ,and other new parties like that of Mamphela Ramphele will poach from the ruling party and from the 1st time voters and the new supporters of the DA this all together will affect the ANC's votes and I believe if they lose a significant number of seats in parliament (+10%) this will force them to deliver more in order to work for their votes and not just receive votes based on history and not the future or the present so all the best to Julius Malema,
