Malema/EFF power in numbers

12 July 2013, 09:08

I recently read an article on research done by Pondering Panda, they state that 26% of young people aged 18-34 supports Malema's EFF party, and 14% of the youth said they wont vote in the 2014 elections.

SA's demographics database does not indicate the exact percentage of people in the age group 18-34, but based on other age data one can make the assumption that people in this age group accounts for roughly 40-50% of the total population.

Based on the above data one can predict the following:

Malema's EFF has support from more than 50% of people in the age group 18-34, that is more than 20% of the total population.

People older than 34 are less liberal and more loyal towards their parties and are less likely to support EFF, lets assume that 10% of people above the age 34 also supports EFF.

That gives EFF conservative support from 30% of the total population – 1/3 one-third!

I'm no political analyst or scientist, I suspect I'm calculating this wrong, please give your input, do we have reason to worry, will the Zim nightmare become our reality next year?
