Jonny was the local hero and had all the pretty girls queuing up to eat out of his hand. Jonny just loved all this attention bestowed upon his brylcreamed head while the boys looked on with some jealousy and smirkingly knowing the future. We all knew the future and also that hidden in a children’s nursery. Jonny was the king of the dungheap and never realised his shortcomings until some years later he was to appear in court on child maintenance charges. Jonny’s argument was that he had never even seen the children but has to maintain them now, years later.
Some of the people in the court snickered softly until told to “Silence” by the judge. Jonny had never worked in his life but did, however, receive a pittance from his father who practically ran the town. This pittance would make a rich man smile but Jonny used it for living expenses exceeding the value of the rich. It also kept him out of the hair of his Old Man. Jonny had sired a total of 12 offspring of which 2 had died at birth due to the mothers’ incapacity to bear children at the age of 14 years old. The mothers almost also died in travail.
It seemed the judge had a vendetta against our Jonny. And as said later by some, in glee, If Jonny was closer he would have received a legal clout plus the R3 000 per child per month. Jonny had never worked in his life and was tossed out on his ear by a disillusioned father who decreased Jonny’s stipend. (Jonny is a fictitious name).
