Many ball sports

25 June 2012, 12:31

I have been watching sport recently.  I think we need to get a perspective on the recent  events of the past..  Congratulations to the baby Boks on winning the junior world cup against the best the world has to offer.  The “seniors” didn’t do so well.  They didn’t achieve the “whitewash” everyone predicted.  Congratulations to England who improved their defense immensely.  With the Boks not being able to run through the England team they reverted to kicking with not much success.  The same applies to the Protea cricket team.  The ‘matches’ in Zimbabwe were basically practice matches.  It is much better for a team to face different bowlers on different surfaces in the middle rather than nets were you face the same bowlers day after day.  The Euro2012 is a different story.  I couldn’t lose the thought that the practice of “diving” has been perfected by the players.  Fortunately most refs are wise to this practice.  If you study the slomo the “victim” is hardly touched by the opposition and falls as if he has been pole axed, lying on the floor cringing in apparent pain.  The worst case of this practice was when a “victim” was lying on the floor and carried off on a stretcher and promptly got up and ran onto the field.  Soccer players have no shame.

Why I love Cambodia’s capital

There are so many reasons to hate Cambodia’s bite sized capital of Phnom Penh. Open sewers, naked children, piles of burning garbage on every street. Its a dirty, smelly, noisy amalgam. But Phnom Penh grows on you and by the time you leave it will occupy a special place in your heart. Read more...
