Sometimes in our lives we all need some motivation, as we are approaching the end of the year and with the final exams around the corner let me take this opportunity to drop a few words to the grade 12 students of 2013.
It’s that time again where only the fittest survives. One will have to reap what they have sown. You’ve seen your mid-year performance and whether you’ve done a satisfactory work or not, it doesn’t really matter because there’s still room to learn. While a few are defined and driven by their dreams and goals, plenty tend to let minor things like poor backgrounds define them. This is to remind you that life doesn’t care about where you come from; it only cares about what you do to better the situation. Like Tata Nelson Mandela once said, “It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another.” So moaning should end here because the strength lies not where we come from or on what we have but within ourselves.
I am aware that many cannot go a weekend without a drink, it’s called fun. Well we all love fun, it’s become part of being young. Can fun really go well together with one’s studies though? Well a science student would describe the relationship between fun and one’s school performance as being inversely proportional and to put it in simple English I would say the increase in the occurrence of fun results to the decrease in one’s school marks. A famous quote by Jim Rohn goes, “If you really want to do something, you will find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.” Depending on your latest performance, this is to say; pull up your socks and remember; in order to fix your errors you needn’t look where you fell but where you slipped.
My fellow brothers and sisters, the whole country is counting on your abilities. GOODLUCK!!
