Mr Mbalula branded Bafana Bafana a bunch of losers” and “unbearable, useless individuals” but the truth is that he is the main loser. As a minister of Sports he was supposed to take a role of a father and find out why his sons are failing. He was supposed to motivate them and not make them feel useless. He wasn’t supposed to go out and lash out at them like a gambler who just lost a bet. His frustration is understandable but his choice of words was completely out. Maybe Floyd Mayweather gave him some tips on rudeness.
Mr Mbalula is a loser. I want to believe that as a young boy he used to have a dream about rubbing shoulders with big Superstars in America. He used to dream about walking the red carpet with Hollywood celebrities. Sipping expensive wines and appearing on TV with expensive jewellery all over his body.
Now that he is in a position of power he is able to make that dream come true. First he invited D-list American stars, Brandy and Viv Fox to perform at the SA Sports awards in 2011 when South Africa has a lot of internationally acclaimed performers. Then in an attempt to up his game he set his radar on Beyonce. Fortunately someone advised him not to, but did he stop fantasising? Nope! This time he brought the most arrogant person to our beautiful country.
Floyd Mayweather was in the country to promote boxing, but did not go to the South African factory of boxers, Mdantsane. He disappointed a lot of people and some of his interviews were cancelled because of his tardiness. He made people wait for more than 2 hours and just gave a lame 5 minute speech when he decided to show up. He punched his ex-girlfriend and doesn’t feel guilty about it, yet Mr Mbalula saw it fit to invite him to motivate young people.
Mr Mbalula needs to wake up from his dream and realise that he is and will not be an American Superstar. Maybe he needs to call Charlize Theron and ask her how she managed to crack it, but at his age he will die before he realise this dream.
