Memorial Day

18 December 2013, 09:01

There’s a stinking little rat

Who is short and pretty fat

And his eyes move independently it seems

When he turns up people boo

At the pile of stinking poo

That would rob all of South Africa of dreams

And his love-child, so they say

Loves to wear a red beret

And then say he wants to take back all the land

But the people boo him too

Cause his people throw the poo

And the populace do not believe he’s grand

So Obama gives a speech

With a madman within reach

And his signing is as bad as Ratty’s word

While Obama pays respects

This buffoonery injects

A dramatic piece of theatre of absurd

The rain is pouring down

And the ratty little clown

Is still doing all he can to own the day

Even Tutu gets involved

Trying to get the rat absolved

And he scolds the crowd, but they will have their say

What the ANC forget

Is that they are pretty wet

And it’s not only the rain that makes them soggy

Madiba’s theirs, they say

And there really is no way

They will share him with a country going moggy

Politics is all they know

And their grieving’s all for show

And they made it pretty clear while he was living

Cause they took their photo cues

And they said they’d paid their dues

Cause all the time they took while he was giving

Now he’s buried, but not gone

Cause he’s still their one icon

Of a struggle that is far back in the past

But they drag it up again

With the threat that if and when

The DA win they’ll make Apartheid really last

Come election time they’ll plead

That Madiba’s heart would bleed

If they voted for the enemy DA

And the ancestors would cry

And their tears would fill the sky

As the rain down that fell upon that fateful day

So Chameleon Eyes will call

To the faithful, one and all

To cast their vote in honour of Mandela

If you cast your vote for others

You will injure all your brothers

Who gave up their lives to give you this umbrella

Of the safety of this land

Where we have made a life so grand

For the people who support us, come what may

But then all will crash and burn

If the DA get their turn

For then Apartheid once more will hold sway

So in honour of this man

Who we trot out when we can

You must once more cast your vote for ANC

Even though he’s dead and gone

You know his spirit lingers on

And you’ll make him cry in heaven, wait  and see

So then, next year’s an election

And we need a fresh injection

Of your money we can add to Ratty’s home

But you know that if we lose

There will be no more free booze

And you’ll have to work your fingers to the bone

So in honour of Mandela

You must vote for this here feller

Even though he’s pulled the country down the drain

Cause you know that if you do

It might one day be you

Who’s the engine driver of this gravy train.
