We all love music, very much and some of us love it to the point that we relate to it in such a way that when a Beyonce song is playing we say “girl i am going through the same thing”. We feel understood, like we aren’t alone in a situation. It is a good thing though, i love it.
I have also noticed how some songs are a cry for help, other songs are a description or an invitation to some of these musicians lives.
Take for instance Kelly Rowland’s `Dirty Laundry`, there was a lot of controversy about the song, some were saying she was talking about an abusive relationship while others were saying she was talking about Beyonce disowning her which came as a shock especially to their fans because we all grew fond of their sisterhood since the young days of Destiny’s child. I say, she is singing about an abusive relationship, this here is a call for help, an invitation to her life experiences. The whole song touches me and brought me to tears at first,
“...when you’re soaked in tears for years it never airs out. When you make pain look this good it never wears out...” meanwhile her fans never saw this, oh of course how could we, she made her pain look good.
“...meanwhile, this nigga putting his hands on me. Swear y`all don’t know half of this industry ...Think i had it good, and they don’t know how bad...”
On verse 2 Kelly quotes her sister on the phone telling her to leave and she says she`s on the kitchen floor, she cannot leave because “he took the keys”. This to me is an abusive relationship. She is letting people know how she lived for a certain period of time and had to look good to hide everything. A lot of women can relate.
Another musician that is coming to mind right now is Adele; i refuse to believe that there is someone out there, especially females, who can confidently say they cannot relate to any of Adele’s songs; in both her albums, Especially 21. That woman has spoken for us ladies, in terms of heartbreaks and all experiences we have had in relationships.
I dearly love music.
Which other songs can one relate to? Drake `Worst behaviour` or John Legend `Made To Love` even Moneoa made Selimathunzi presenter, Zizo Beda cry with her `More Than You` short performance during an interview.
“music touches us emotionally, where words alone can`t”
