My Jonah Syndrome

12 February 2014, 10:25

It has been awhile since last I have written or published an article. To be quite honest, it is with reluctance that I am doing this one, but have decided to go ahead anyway.

The purpose of this article is to share with the reader my thoughts, feelings and observations. I hope that I myself will find serenity.

To start off: I am a Christian. Does that mean that I stand ready to attack any and all for not sharing my views and beliefs? No! That is the exactly the purpose of this article; to try and explain that it is all right to disagree. It is not in disagreeing that the problem lies but rather in how we disagree.

To be honest, this is not a one sided affair. Many a time I have been ashamed at how Christians attacks non-christians. There is no supremacy in being a Christian, but rather a humble spirit.

Since starting to publish articles as I did on News24, the verbal abuse, hatred and aggression was unbelievable. Granted, it was mostly from the same group of people with a sprinkling of others, but even so, it was shocking. So much so, that I decided to stop.

Now please, this is no attack on atheists etc.  Believe me; this abuse even comes from Christians as well. One incident that comes painfully to mind is that a Christian that disagreed with me on Israel and the Temple, went so far as to curse me (anathema). That really knocked me.

I’ve come to realize that love, patience and respect has been replaced by hate, intolerance and disrespect. Does this only apply to religion? Oh no! Only To South Africans ? Again no!

Just go to the commentaries on the sport section on News24. LOL. Some are good humored and tongue in check, but the vast majority is just downright vulgar and personalized attacks. Now, wait for it….. I am a Lion supporter with my 2nd choice the Bulls, some know them as the Camo Cows hahaha. It is supposed to be fun to support your teams and to be passionate about them. For those that read the forums would know what I am referring to. Just to set the record straight; I think it is veeeery unlikely for the Lions or Bulls to have any chance this year and I think that the Sharks has the best chance and as a South African, I want the S15 cup to come to SA so I will support them. Now, many may disagree with me on this and I accept and respect that. The point I am trying to make is, disagree all you want, but why the abuse.

For the last 30 years I have been a student of eschatology and therefore read a number of foreign newspapers. Believe me when I say that it is maybe even worse than SA.

People, why this hatred?

I do not expect every and all to agree with what I say or write. There are many articles which at a glance let me know the subject matter. If I feel that it holds no interest to me, I do not read it. I do not read it just to see what I can attack the writer on. If you see yourself as an atheist and want to write about your belief, do so. As I have no interest in such, I will skip it. Why read it just to attack you. You have the right to believe as you wish. So do I.

I was told on more than one occasion to remove myself from New24 and to stop publishing my articles. I have done this and even stopped my articles to my mailing list. But somewhere a flame did not want to die. I ignored it and shut it out. I watched DVD’s, played PC games and just for my own info carried on reading the newspapers.

For Christmas, a friend gave me a voucher for Cum Books. To be honest, I had no desire to redeem it. Sunday my wife suggested that I should, so off we went. I could not find what I was looking for and just selected some books. When I got home, I opened the top book and whilst reading, the following basically jumped out at me. Jeremiah 20:9 But if I say, "I will not remember Him Or speak anymore in His name," Then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; And I am weary of holding it in, And I cannot endure it. That is exactly how I feel. To the last word. Coincidence?

OK, let’s stop right here for a moment. Am I trying now to convert you? No I am not. So you may ask; Are you not suppose to try and convince me, you know, the Great Commission or something like that? Well sorry; I have no interest in that. I see myself rather as bringing world events to the attention of the reader. So very few people today even bother to explore world events. Here I am not talking about eschatology, but secular predictions and events. Example, China is a financial disaster waiting to happen; Petro Dollars may be on the way out. Just those two bubbles will change the world as we know it today and there are many more. Is this religious jargon? Nope! secular. Just a friendly question here. Would your finances be able to weather it?

It would seem as if the world have been programmed with two words; “Conspiracy Theory”. This makes me think what Kierkegaard said, “People so want to be part of the group that they will sacrifice their own beliefs and thinking just not to be out”.

A typical example is fashion. How many times have you seen a woman looking absolutely gross with what she is wearing? But she will rather look ridiculous than not wear ‘the fashion’. Point is that another lady may wear the same outfit and look stunning. So what is important here? Fashion or what makes a lady look stunning?

Today we are so lucky. We have the Internet. Most of the so-called “Conspiracy Theories” can be googled in less than an hour. Again I am talking about secular websites. Do we do this or just automatically cry in union “Conspiracy Theory”?

How many of you reading this knows that fundamental Christians are seen as enemies of the State in America? Are you aware that such, of which I am one, is seen by Obama as terrorists and are on the Pentagon list coupled with al-Qaeda, Hezbollah etc? Not believing me? Go goggle.

I love South Africa and her people. The world is getting a very dangerous place to live in. Please examine the evidence before joining the choir shouting “Conspiracy Theory” and just let fly with degrading remarks.
