My Lady, My Lord

04 April 2014, 21:45

When reading the comments by Africans on the recent withdrawal of aid to Uganda over the issue of the persecution of homosexuals one sees the following oft repeated refrain:
“Go away imperialist and evil spirits from Africa , leave us alone …....”

All the while they quite happily adopt all the imperialist imported religions and gods and hold on desperately to many colonialist traditions.  One that stands out is the continued use of honorifics as is evidenced in the Oscar trial with the grating use of the term, “My Lady” to refer to the presiding judge.

Please madam.  Why are we supposed to to refer to these people with special reverence?  They are just people doing a job (some doing it better then others) and earning a living. All this My Lady, My Lord, Your Honour, Your worship is undemocratic, irrelevant and outdated.

I certainly do not worship any other human being on the planet except my wife.  What is wrong with just referring to an official by their job title.  And this “My” thing.  If you are a doctor or professor I don't address you as My Doctor and My Professor.

Then, moving on to parliament, we have all useless, indolent, dishonest, high flying cronies of the ANC calling each other  “honourable” ffs!

“His excellency President Jacob Zuma”.Heave! BWGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!  /* That feels better. */
Mugabe likes the excellency form of address as well.  There is nothing excellent about them at all.  These  felonious,  grasping, deceitful, intolerant, thieving, immoral, uncaring contemptible bastards represent all that is base and reprehensible.

I will happily address people as president, judge, magistrate and professor and doctor.  It is time to rid ourselves of these irrelevant,  undeserved, colonial white baas titles.
