My News24 Poem thingie

09 March 2012, 09:11
There once was a tree filled with apples
Some of them rotten right to the core
And detailed descriptions were noted
of rotted fruit
upon news 24

Discussions were held and opinions were thrown
from comfortable chairs inside comfortable homes
with faces alight from the glare of our screens
contributors and trolls mostly typing alone

Then suddenly from nowhere an article springs
Julius Malema says his usual things
"Imperialists and agents with white tendencies"
Our blinged out champion of poverty sings

A few seconds later come contributors and trolls
unleashed opinions for release and for lols
The comments are flowing and the mods are deleting
The fame of the racist and troll rendered fleeting

A few hours later the flames have abated
The mods all sit back, the editor elated
500 comments means we will return
It's all entertainment to see our land burn

'Good news' it's not called
Just 'news' that is all
cos good news won't sell
Not on news twenty four

It's not their fault
they're just reporting the fruit,
You see those bad apples
all start at the root

Ignorance, poverty,
old fashioned greed.
Evil dudes loving
to see others bleed.

Jeeves Eddings the writer
(of this simple poem)
would be sitting oblivious
in his comfortable home

Oblivious of crime and corruption and stuff
Content with his life filled with more than enough

Just braaing and poitjie
and maybe a dance
he would not have joined
the SA advance

Without this platform
we just would not know
'bout whats happening around us
where our country will go

So thanks to the journos at News24
We're now aware that we live in Mordor
with Orcs and Ogres and (of course) Trolls
And corruption and Telkom and unfair Tolls

Now that we know there are beasts in the night
We can haul out our shotguns and switch on the lights
Armed with teachers and mentors we're off to war
We'll chase back the darkness with News24

Sometime in the future when we've sorted the root
and the trees of our nation are laden fruit
And we've cleaned out our closets and thrown out our blues
maybe then all we'll read
is just wonderful news

Why I love Cambodia’s capital

There are so many reasons to hate Cambodia’s bite sized capital of Phnom Penh. Open sewers, naked children, piles of burning garbage on every street. Its a dirty, smelly, noisy amalgam. But Phnom Penh grows on you and by the time you leave it will occupy a special place in your heart. Read more...
