As I write this, my neighbours are in a playground of excitement; they have discovered that they both enjoy trance music, and are exchanging their favourite artists, albums and tracks. I've never seen two people connect so easily, and I'd swear that they'd been friends for 20 years. Thay've been to the same places, to see the same DJ's, and when one's seen a DJ the other hasn't, a great story unfolds over how awe inspiring the occasion was.
This got me thinking...
Music is probably the greatest invention man has come up with. I mean, who doesn't like music? Even the most drab, world-weary soul is refreshed by a good dose of Coltrane or Bach. More than that, music has given people more common ground than any other invention. Money, location, race, religious beliefs and life ambitions all become slightly out of place when enjoying music. Music has the potential (and has lived up to it so far), to bring more people together than any of mans other inventions.
So I say, instead of judging people by what religion(or lack there of) they belong to, judge them by whether or not they enjoy music. Sure, your taste in music may differ, but the fact that you enjoy music shows people more than what God you worship and how intelligent you are. No, a love of music shows something much, much more than that: it shows people that you have a soul. Not a soul in the religious sense, but a soul in the most human sense. And at the end of the day, are we not all human?
