I woke up in a brilliant mood this morning (NOT usual) and was looking forward to a fabulous Friday. I switched on my computer, logged in to Facebook and my whole world felt like it was crashing down around my ears. There was a post:
Some of the people who were busted for dog fighting. How they get to stay on facebook? And Rudi has photos of his fighting dog, injuries and all! Some of these guys work for Correctional Services???? Share this far and wide people - let people see the faces of these criminals!
Rudi Wall - Werk nogals vir correctional services - https://www.facebook.com/?profile.php?id=100001712354307&?sk=wall
Anthony Blake - werk ook vir correctional services - https://www.facebook.com/?profile.php?id=100003160160689&?sk=wall
Yorick Grobbelaar - Oos Londen - https://www.facebook.com/?profile.php?id=1015897146&sk=wa?ll
I am not so clueless that I do not know that dog fighting is a huge problem in South Africa but the fact that Mr Wall is so blatant as to have photos of his dog, Apollo, looking horribly scarred on his FB wall just astounds me. Does the man have no shame? Does he have no conscience? Other pictures show that the dog is heavily chained and looks rather skinny.
As you can see from the Facebook link, Mr Wall works for Correctional Services and lives in Queenstown. I have posted this to a whole bunch of animal rescue organisations, Cape Talk, etc and have also e-mailed Helen Zille in the hope that someone will be able to bring these people to book.
I tried called the Correctional Services Crime Line but was told that, if the complaint does not relate to something that the person has done during working hours, they are unable to assist. How can this be? Are they not concerned with the fact that one of their employees is committing a crime after hours?
I am hoping that, through posting this on News24, someone somewhere will take action, investigate and prosecute these sorry excuses for human beings for the horrors they are putting their animals through.
