Nelson Mandela is not appreciated

Nelson Mandela was very big, genuine and generous with Reconciliation in South Africa. He made it his life mission (almost an obsession) to lead the way in this very important aspect of Nation Building. This was so necessary at the time and he was the right man for the time. 

His role in going about this is legendary, unprecedented for a man who was expected to be bitter after spending 27 years in jail for fighting for the liberation of all South Africans.
Some of the concessions he made in the process angered many of his comrades, who felt that he was being too soft on the "former enemy".

A visionary Leader takes risks, in the hope and belief that as he extends himself beyond the "normal" expectations of colleagues and adversaries, his efforts will at least be appreciated and returned with like effort. 
For all the risk and the concessions that Nelson Mandela made in his mission for Reconcilliation and Nation Building in South Africa, there has been no return of effort and appreciation on the side of those who he reached out to in the process.

Most of them are in awe of Nelson Mandela and they readily sing the praises of the man. But there has been very little or no effort on their side.

But they conveniently forget that Nelson Mandela the Reconciler and the Nation Builder is also a Freedom Fighter.
He fought for the freedom of all South Africans.

When Nelson Mandela stepped up to the podium in Ellis Park in a Springbok jersey and cap after the Springboks beat the All Blacks 15-12 in that iconic Rugby World Cup final, everybody cheered and agreed what a great President he was.We experienced many more similar examples of reconcilliation and nation building from Nelson Mandela.

Nelson Mandela fought an unpopular battle against his ANC comrades to retain the Springbok emblem. But the appreciation for the efforts of Nelson Mandela for Reconcilliation and Nation Building remain unanswered by our fellow South Africans.
