I read and almost cried, one cannot believe just how fortunate we all are as South Africans. http://law2.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/mandela/mandelaaccount.html I as a South African thank those mentioned, and those not remembered for being selfless.
One can only imagine the carnage had they been sentenced to death and a less amiable person taken over the reigns of the MK or ANC to fill the leadership vacuum. We may still be in a civil war. I never knew just how important so many other names like Kathrada, Fischer were and are to our nation. I may not be an ANC member, but good gracious I cannot ignore the efforts of those who made a conscious decision that their death for my life was a sacrifice they would so easily find acceptable. Bizo's has always been a hero I knew about.
I know many others died nameless, others killed in the process and dire struggle for a free country and I do not condone their killings. But I must say reading the on the trial, one cannot fathom just how selfless the founding father of this young nation were. I cannot imagine making the ultimate sacrifice of death, so some kid I have never met nor will ever meet may on this day live in a free society and share his thoughts for a better future.
I love my country!!
