New ENCA with no difference

28 September 2012, 11:10
eNews channel announced that they will be re-branding in an attempt to look more appealing to viewers as they go intercontinental. The South African 24 hour news channel can now be seen on Sky pay TV but the new look and new name hasn't gone without raising a few eyebrows.

The idea of going around the world sounds all good, but it comes with so much responsibility because you have to bring you’re a game.

As it stands ENCA as it is now called hasn't changed the quality of their product but they have changed the name and their logo.

The independent news channel claims they want to be known as the African broadcaster around the world. However naysayers say that the channel news coverage wasn't even national how will they cope with bringing African stories to the UK audience? It now begs the question; how do you achieve that while you were failing to cover the whole of South Africa?

Since there hasn't been much change in terms of content, that could be their downfall as they enter new markets. The idea of repeating three stories the whole day is not going to fly, viewers want something new and they deserve better.

One has to wonder about some of their news stories, especially concerning people who have suffered from tragedy, how they bear relevance to the UK viewers.

Increasing news coverage will be a wise move because as it stands their website isn't up and running. It is believed that the website will be in full function by the end of the year with news content.
