Even though there seems to be no economy to speak of, for employees and South African citizens, the economy could roll by:
Scenario: 1000 chartered accountants qualify end of 2014. They gain employment and work for five years. During that five years, based on inflation money gets deducted from their salaries every month to service them taking off the sixth year (2020). In that year of them taking off, a gap will be opened up in the market on a revolving basis to allow for other’s employment. In the paid year they take off they can either study, family time, meditate, travel, tutoring, mentoring or work in the garden.
The system of 5 year cycles will last the duration of their working life. So they will have 8 years paid leave before retirement, assuming retirement age is 63+ years old.
This system will eliminate many socio-economic factors like boredom, stagnation, exhaustion, empire building, minimise fraud (or expose it easier) and change the mind set of goal objectives etc.
In the life of an accountant, like many other vocations, there are variations of skill sets stemming from the primary qualification ie auditing, company secretaries, accountant, investments. The five year offsets can be quantified or streamlined per personal choice and exposure. Most candidates have managerial ambitions which are accommodated in this format.
Paid sabbaticals in a structured environment could be well worth the journey.
