News24 users remember Madiba

06 December 2013, 08:59

Tributes are pouring in from News24 Users after the passing of Nelson Mandela.

It is indeed a sad day for all of us – I clearly remember the day TATA was released from prison in 1990.

What an experience it was to be outside the Cape Town City Hall, listening to the father of the nation deliver his first speech after spending 26 years in prison.

The crowds had to also contend with the South African Police firing rubber bullets to try and disperse the people.

Long live your spirit TATA.

Asokan Moodley

It was a privilege to see our Madiba at the Three Tenors concert held at the Union buildings.

It was a beautiful night, with the African sky and stars above us.

When Madiba arrived, those of us who were in the first few rows, saw him very clearly.

What struck me immediately was how tall he was. It’s not easy to see in photos, but his stature was amazing and he held himself proud.

It made the concert extra special, knowing that Madiba was with (especially when Pavarotti sang Nessun Dorma as the closing song).

We will miss that you are not here anymore Madiba.

Rest in peace – your job is done.

Wendy Campbell

It's hard to put it into words. He was more than a hero to me.

Nelson Mandela was the one who asked Oprah to build a school and because of that I had an excellent high school education.

I am a product of his dream and I will thank him by being the best that I can be.

Rest in Peace Tata.

Ntsiki Maduna

You have taken your place among the ANGELS in heaven. Your long walk is over! Your legacy will have impact on the world forever.

Xavier Mahony

I fear that he was the moral compass of this country... and it has been taken away... what shall our country be?

He was a hero ambassador, he fought for peace and freedom. The whole world was proud of him. He said don't call me, I will call you.  The nation has lost Tata, let's celebrate his death. A legend has died.

Oh my heart is torn apart , I can't believe that the man is gone. I'm really short of words.

He was the only man among all African leaders who knew how to live in peace, love and harmony.
RIP Tata.
Tunga Gandiwa

I am saddened at his passing, but I find comfort in knowing he is one man that lived a full life. He an example an icon and managed to become a living legend, we celebrated and loved him in life and we will continue to long after he is gone.

News24 User

I don't think I fully comprehend the full extent of Mandela's and his comrade's contribution to our lives but I strongly believe it deserves unlimited appreciation, RIP Rolihlahla.

Sbonelo Hlophe

What a sad day for South Africans. Madiba you will live in our hearts forever. Although we knew you were sick it does not make the heartache any less. You have touched our lives, whether we were white, black or any other colour.
