We live in a world where pessimists roam the streets of the internet in packs.
Embittered and frustrated with the world around them, they refer to themselves as 'realists' and get immense satisfaction from ripping down the 'air castles' of dreamers and optimists.
I think it starts out in school with the pulling of hair, the calling of names and the bullying of someone who is smaller and weaker. Or maybe at home, where parents would fight, get divorced and rip the fabric of emotional security.
Whatever the root, there are more bitter people skulking about than one realizes.
What is it that makes it ok in someone's mind to rip into a fellow human?
What missing cog removes manners and decency?
These people are broken, they don't work properly.
Like a malfunctioning machine, they go through life oblivious to the pain and turmoil they sow into their fellow humans.
They are easy to spot, you know, those guys who use the term 'moral high ground' as an accusation.
You stand for what is right, they call you self righteous.
You attempt to find truth and solutions, they call you a hypocrite.
They generally hide behind rhetoric and propaganda, much like our dear Julius who similarly calls anyone who differs with him 'agents' and 'imperialists'.
I've always been a bit of a Nerd.
Raised by parents who taught me to always be nice and considerate to people, I found myself growing up on the back foot trying to kindly ward off the blows of kids who bullied and teased anything in their path.
Kindness, manners and all that cool stuff good parents teach are all seen as weakness by these thugs so my primary school years were not the most pleasant.
Luckily I had cousins who insisted on teaching me how to fight so my high school years were considerably more comfortable.
Bullies are generally cowards who take the path of least resistance. As previously stated, they are broken, their heads don't work lekker.
If I had my way, school bullies and their parents would be hauled into court and sorted out properly. But that is another discussion for another time.
I once got into a fight with a fellow because I asked him to stop teasing a distraught kid who very obviously came from a difficult home life.
The bully gave me the "or what" challenge and I gladly accepted. (Being in an English school and having Afrikaans cousins who are very fond of boxing and wrestling was VERY advantageous.)
I won the fight but felt like I had let the world down somehow. Like there was a better way to handle this and there definitely is but I was 15 years old, what did I know about using the system?
From those days to these, nothing much has changed.
The shocker for me is that these weird human vultures still act like insecure teens when they are 'grown up'.
You still to stand up for your convictions with the full willingness to defend what you believe is right, just and fair.
I still try to be as nice a guy as I can be, standing up for those who need it, helping those who need it and trying to make the world a better place for my being in it.
When I meet others with the same drive, it brings be great joy!
I celebrate those people and reward them as much as I can in any way I can.
They make my world better and inspire me to do the same.
The bitter pessimist would call me naive.
I call them broken.
What the hell is wrong with you? Why do you insist on making this planet a worse place to live for yourself an others?
Seriously, go see a doctor or a head mechanic or something.
How does spewing negative nonsense make your or my life better?
How does vicously ripping into another human being or their work make your life better?
Or is your objective to be miserable and sow misery wherever you go?
When nice guys finish last, the world becomes a little sadder.
Darkness inches ever closer and the pessimists are proven right.
I refuse to live in a world where we cannot chase our dreams and help others to do the same.
I would like to encourage those reading this who might be pulling into a shell because of continuous negative bombardment to never give up on the great picture in your mind.
The world needs you, we need your light, don't let the broken beat you, don't let them push you back. Every human has the right to be healthy, wealthy, happy and wise. Don't you dare let broken people steal that away from you!
You are not alone in your quest to make the world a better place!
Don't ever give up!
Let us roll up our sleeves and be prepared to proudly defend what our parents taught us and teach our children to do the same. (Unless you parents were psycho sociopaths and whatnot).
And thus ends my self righteous, naive, hypocritical article thingie.
