No more medical aid!!

10 March 2014, 14:22

Hellloooo News24.

I tried to stay away, but couldn’t.

So much to talk about, so little time.

What about Oscar?? Naaah (he did it, get over it), what about the loadshedding? Naaah (I don’t need electricity to drink wine), and the rain???  Hopefully it stops, so not much there.

What about my idiotic medical aid, who refuses to pay for laser eye surgery???

You pay these idiots a ridiculous amount of money every month, only to have your benefits reduced and your premium increased.  After I had an appointment at the eye institute, they informed me that the laser eye surgery is deemed to be “cosmetic”.  No please explain that to me…  Just because you don’t wear glasses?

And let’s also do the math.  I get R2200.00 for glasses every 2 years.  Say I live for another 40 years, that comes to R44 000.00 (without benefit increase, it will more than likely decrease – idiots).  The costs of the surgery amounts to R24000.00.  So how does that make sense?!  Okay, so let’s say I will require glasses later on in life, because the surgery doesn’t last forever.  I will gladly accept a condition that the medical aid wont cover glasses if you had laser eye surgery.

The best way I can describe medical aids (so appropriately named - aids…) is in Afrikaans – Geld wolwe – no other way!  So I have decided to do the following – I will cancel my medical aid, and deposit the monthly instalment into an interest-bearing account.  I will then take out a relatively decent hospital plan (I say that because most of these policies are also a sham, but let’s face it, I don’t want to end up in one of the morgues our state calls hospitals – you check in but you don’t check out.  Or you get raped while admitted, or abused by the nursing staff, or you get a dreaded disease you didn’t have before checking in and so on and so on).

So to all medical schemes, scheming us out of our money – take your benefits and shove them.
