This is not a death of a man, but it is the end of an era.
An era of rebels, ungovernable heroes whose unbridled hunger to live out their dreams is the reason South Africa is where it is today.
As a female and as a gay individual in a South Africa that frowns upon both my gender and sexuality, I can wholeheartedly say that Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, uDalibhunga, uTata; was a man whose ideologies constantly reminded me that it is okay to be me, and I am as much a South African as anybody else.
It is his ideologies that have lifted my spirits in times where I lost hope in our leadership and its relationship with the women in our country. Madiba understood women to be the backbone of society; and that is how I choose to remember him.
I will remember his laugh, his patience; I will even remember that the greatest tribute we can give him is to live out his vision for South Africa.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts.. This is a world leader whose love for his people and passion for equality will leave a mark through the South African people.
