Over the last few months, a few staff members of Cape Pensinsula University of Technology have been putting articles on MyNews24 in a desperate attempt to get some clarity on what is going on at this taxpayer subsidized organisation.
There have been no official answers from the top. After hearing two different stories from colleagues over the last 3 days, and in both cases sworn to secrecy by the sources who got it from God knows whom, I decided to forward a article from MyNews24 to the chairman of CPUTs council and the Vice Chancellor. These are their responses:
From Mr Bikwani, chairman of council:
“Dear Sir/Madam
If you're looking for answers you'll not get them by publishing your questions. My advice would be to write to the VC or myself as Chairperson of Council, Mbulelo Bikwani, with your questions and then you'll get answers to all of them. Even journalists (EVEN JOURNALISTS? MEANING? WHO HAVE APPROACHED YOU? ) identify themselves and send us questions that we respond to, to the extent that we're required (WHICH IS NOTHING? NOBODY SEND YOU QUESTIONS MR BIKWANI!)
All CPUT citizens know the answers to all your questions (REALLY????????) and they also know (REALLY??????) that they can talk to council and/or myself about any concern they've, if they decide to raise concerns through the media, then they don't want to use the platform (WHICH ONES????????) we (WHO???) created (WHEN???) and therefore have no interest to engage us (WE HAVE NO CHOICE FOR LACK OF INFORMATION!!!!!!!).
Even for you sir/madam I'm anxious to give you correct information that I personally (WHEN???????AND IN WHAT FORM???? EMAIL, IN PERSON?? ) gave to the entire (REALLY???? WHEN???? HOW????) YOU HAVE BEEN IN GERMANY!!!! SO WHEN DID YOU INFORM THESE PEOPLE AND WHY DID THE RUMORS START SURFACING WHEN YOU WERE IN GERMANY???? PERSONALLY?? PLEASE FORWARD THE EMAILS SEND TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY WHILE YOU WERE IN GERMANY!!!) university community around the issues you're still raising. I hope you'll take my invitation for a constructive engagement seriously rather than the sling fight you're inviting us to. (AWE BROTHER, WE WIL BE FIRED FOR PUTTING ARTICLES ON NEWS24 EVEN IF WE HAVE NO PROOF OF YOUR CLAIMS AND EVEN IF YOU HAVE NO PROOF OF YOUR CLAIMS)
Finally, CPUT is not a WC university but a SA university, therefore not only the WC Tax payers have oversight but the SA Tax payer in general. (SO WHY DO YOU NOT SEND OUT A PRESS RELEASE TO SUBSTANTIATE OR DENY THE RUMORS COMING STRAIGHT FROM MANAGERS – REMEMBER THE ONES YOU PERSONALLY INFORMED - THAT YOU HAVE ASKED TANGA TO LEAVE???)
Ours, as council, is to build a Great University, if you're patriotic enough your questions/concerns, properly channeled (WHICH CHANNELS???) and processed can help us move from Good to Great.(WHAT “GOOD” ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT SIR? THE ONLY STORIES EVEN PUBISHED ABOUT CPUT ARE ABOUT RIOTS AND THEN THE LITTLE SATELITE LAUNCHED MAINLY BY THE FRENCH ON OUR CAMPUS!)))
With my best regards.
Mbulelo Bikwani
(CPUT ORDINARY STAFF COMMENTS: HOW CAN YOU TALK ABOUT GOOD WHEN THE VAST MAJORITY OF STAFF AND NONE OF THE STUDENTS KNOW THE ANSWERS TO WHAT YOU CLAIM WERE TOLD TO THE ENTIRE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY???)
First response from the chairman of council to a News24 blog fowarded to him via News24.):::
Call me on saturday I'm traveling from Germany.(48 HOURS TRAVELLING TIME????) You can ask the union leadership & IF they'll tell you every detail about Prof Tanga's employment status. (IS THERE ANY REASON WHY THE UNIONS ARE NOT INFORMING US THEMSELVES? OR DO YOU THINK NEHAWU IS TO ASHAMED OF THE FACT THAT ITS LEADER (REAPPOINTED BY TANGA) HAVE BEEN INVESTIAGTED FOR FRAUD FOR A SECOND TIME AND ACCORDING TO THEN DIFFERENT RUMORS, HAVE BEEN FIRED???)
I visited all faculties to inform staff about this very same issue (WHO DID YOU SPEAK TO? THE DEANS? THE HODS? WHY NOT THE ENTIRE FACULTY STAFF. THE MESSAGE CAME TO US THE NORMAL WAY: DON’T TELL ANYBODY I TOLD YOU!!)
Whoever says that they don't know the details is mischievous & disingenuous. (THAT MUST BE THE VAST MAJORITY OF CPUT STAFF, STUDENTS AND THE TAXPAYERS OF SOUTH AFRICA. IF YOU WERE MAKING CRUCIAL STATEMENTS ABOUT TANGA AND ALLEGED IRREGULARITIES, WHY DID YOU NOT SEND IT TO THE MEDIA AS IS CUSTOMARY WHEN THERE ARE IMPORTANT INFO FROM CPUT?, .LIKE STUDENT PROTESTS!! ;-) )
Response from the honorable “professor” Tanga::: (HOW ABOUT A OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO ALL THE STAFF L V TANGA?? YOU DIDN’T HESITATE TO INFORM STAFF THAT THEY MUST NOT SPEAK TO THE MEDIA BUT TO THE CHAIR OF COUNCIL.
ARE YOU DEMANDING R6M? ACCORDING TO SOME RUMOURS IT IS MUCH MORE? AND CAN YOU PERSONALLY PLZE TELL US WHAT THE ORIGINAL TERMS OF YOUR TENURE WAS?
Thank you Mxolisi
I had already seen the news clip. It is interesting indeed.
Regards
L V Tanga
MXOLISI’S REPLY TO THE CHAIR OF COUNCIL:
Dear Mr Bikwani
Thank you very much for your reply. However, your reply confirms the lack of communication, lack of transparency and misinformation that the stories on speak about. Which information is it that you personally gave to the entire university community?
The following sentence refers:
"Even for you sir/madam I'm anxious to give you correct information that I personally gave to the entire university community around the issues you're still raising. I hope you'll take my invitation for a constructive engagement seriously rather than the sling fight you're inviting us to."
If the entire university community have been informed, why do no people on the ground know the details? Your earlier email said that you informed all of the faculties? Were these the Deans, the HODs?. They must certainly didt inform the ordinary staff and rumors are abounding. If the entire university community have been informed, why do nobody know nothing?
If there were any instructions for ordinary staff to be informed, where are the meetings, emails etc so that ordinary staff can be informed? Where are the notices about union meetings etc for staff to be informed. This lack of information to ordinary staff has been the hallmark of professor Tangas reign, that of the previous council and yours.
If these info have been given through to the entire community you would not have hesitated to repeat it here. Why is it necessary for staff to turn to social media to get answers? That is a serious indictment in itself.
We have been informed of new appointments, Gilberts departure, Bhanas departure via email. Nowadays we are even infromed of new appointments (OF ADMIN ASSISTANTS!!!) So where are the emails arround prof Tanga and the alleged deamdn of the council that she leaves? Is the situation surrounding the VC not much more important than any of the mentioned?
The channels that you mention are the representatives who sit on council, the senate, the institutional forum, the unions etc. There have been no meetings or any kind or information sessions on the info you say have been given to the "entire university community".
I AM a true patriot. That is why allegations of irregularities, lack of transparency and lack of communication are of very great concern to me. If we are disingenious and mischievous can you please explain why we now nothing? Can you provide proof that you have informed the entire university community?
Over the last two years we have heard at least 10 different stories about the VCs tenure and why she got to stay on. I think you also need to update your info on the character of this lady who has regularly and repeatedly threatened, intimidated and false accused many managers and senior managers.
You don't know half of the story Mr Bikwani.
Respectfully yours
A patriot, ordinary staff member, taxpayer and uninformed member of the CPUT community, like all of my colleagues who have been putting posts on News24 over the last few months.
Somehwere in may I think we were told that nobody must speak to the media and only to the chair of council. Why must we speak to you Sir? Why dont you just tell us things as they are?
