Yesterday I watched with much anticipation on the second season of One Day Leader, disappointed at the programme, now that’s an understatement. When they started with their auditions I was hoping that all young people from all walks of life would be considered and represented, I do not know how they ended up with their panel but I was not impressed.
I am black and should be chuffed that only our kind is represented, but I am not, from the judges to the candidates, I have a problem if this is how our future leadership will be in such a diverse country.
If these are our future leaders, that will only represent one group and the rest of the country is not represented I question that kind of leadership. There is no variety. Who is representing the colored, the Indian and the White I ask?
We are a democratic country and in a democracy all individuals should be represented in leadership, yes the problems we might face as a country might be the same and might need the same solution but if only one group is represented than where will the other groups confide.
I have a problem with a country that is only led by one racial group, because they only care for their own, I believe that a country should be led by different races. If we want unity in this country than shows like one day leader need to bring that unity, at the moment all I have seen is that this country is only for one racial group, take a look at parliament, the majority of parliament members are from one racial group, yes there are other races but shouldn’t there be a balance as a united nation?
And then you ask why we don’t have much progress as a country.
I believe that leadership should have diversity, because a leadership that is diverse empowers people, it is more effective and strengths from all sides are acknowledged. Diversity is understanding and valuing and using the different in every person.
If there is no diversity, we can’t help but being bias, only thinking and acting for our group, our bias nature is deeply rooted within us, from when we are born, we learn about ourselves our environment and everything that is about ourselves, a bit of selfishness is rooted and if again as a country we are only going to breed the same kind of leadership that has nothing new, nothing fresh our problems are yet to widen.
Who is representing the Indian, the White, and the Colored? Who is representing the handicapped, we are a diverse nation and in every part of leadership all diversity needs to be represented.
It takes a wide variety of people to become the best.
