There have been numerous articles challenging Christians on the benefits their belief holds. This to me is a fair challenge yet has never been properly answered by giving us some concrete examples. I would not consider it bizarre for people who have the backing of the almighty creator to enjoy certain benefits associated with this alliance. For example, I would expect them to enjoy the better health and a safer existence that they pray for each day. Surely such benefits could be easily verified through reduced insurance premiums and claims for Christians as compared to the non-believer community? Yet those benefits have never been claimed by Christians on this site and I am still lost for any tangible benefit associated with being a Christian.
So then, I decided to approach this from the other side. Instead of awaiting a response from the Christians, I have compiled a short list of things which I believe can only be done by Christians. These are the unique things that we atheists have to stand back and watch our Christian brothers do, without having the slightest chance of ever accomplishing:
Fear the devil: You first have to become a Christian in order to fear the evil beast that god created to scare you into believing in him. It is impossible for an atheist to fear this very monster that is supposed to fear them into belief. Atheists don’t fear the devil, Christians do.
Despise homosexuals: Apart from Christians, no other group of people publicly resent another group of people purely based on their sexual orientation. This is one of god’s creations that he is happy for his followers to spit on. And boy, don’t his followers just latch onto this treat! What’s better than the Christian mob ganging up against this minority of vulnerable people. Another Christian exclusivity.
Killing another man is okay: As long as the police don’t catch you, you are fine. Just find your nearest church, fall on your knees and beg for forgiveness. I understand you can do this a few times and still be forgiven. We non-believers not only risk being caught by the authorities, we have to live with our consciousness all of our lives, never to be told by an almighty god that it is okay. For many Christians this forgiveness clause is their bread and butter. Jesus died so that makes it okay.
Spot a miracle: Christians can spot a miracle a mile away. They are also quite regularly at the scene of a miracle, usually alone without camera or cell phone. The miracle of the person who survived the horrific car accident is often mentioned without questioning why the accident was allowed and the other driver lost his life. They’ve got the gift of understand these things and spot the miracle.
Judge: You have to be a Christian to judge others. Although they are extremely sensitive to this one, it’s probably one of the easiest ways identifying a Christian. It doesn’t take much for a Christian to first feel sorry for you, and then condemn you to hell. They will off course fervently deny that they are judging you, only god can judge, yet they just tell you what will happen if you don’t listen to him. Needless to say non-believers can’t judge. What would we judge you on? We can laugh at you, but cannot judge you in any way whatsoever.
High expectations of their fellow man: I have to give it to Christians that they are very keen to share the spoils of their heavenly father with all of mankind. Off course the only condition you have to meet is accepting Jesus as your saviour. So it is not unusual for Christians to expect their fellow man that was born and bred in the Arab deserts, to renounce their regional faith and accept Jesus as their only saviour. No exceptions made. Again very few groups of people have such high expectations of others and I therefore classify that as a unique Christian quality.
These are just a few that sprang to mind, I am sure there are many more. But hopefully this could assist any aspirant Christians out there to discover the unique benefits of Christianity.
