Open letter to Nazir Alli / SANRAL

Carbon Copy - Jacob Zuma and the ANC
Re E-Tolling vis-a-vis Not Paying for What You Didn't Ask For

I am one of those strange people. I have an e-tag, and I am registered for Gauteng's open-road tolling. To date, I have been a pre-paid user, and one of the 1% who get to the R450 cap every month.

If you scour my News24 profile, you may even find a letter or two where I have expressed my support for SANRAL. Or more accurately, not expressed my misgivings with the parastatal, because it was simply more cost-effective to comply and be done with it. I may even have encouraged others to do the same.

I was very much for the system, because my commute route, the R21 between Centurion and the East Rand, was widened from a two-lane highway to a four-lane road, absolute bliss for a motoring nutter like me. In other words, I could see the value, and I was happy to pay for that.

But times change, people change, I have changed.

In response to the Public Protector's report on his personal villa, aka Club Med Zululand, Jacob Zuma, the Indomitable Emperor of Nkandla, the Fat Zulu, Shower Head, the darkie running amok with a stolen Diners card, in an unguarded moment, stated the following (para.): I did not ask for those things, therefore I shall not pay for them.

To be so utterly dismissive of the findings of the PP, the rank arrogance, the manner in which he holds himself above the people, galls me. The president would do well to look up the definition of democracy. Or get Mac to do it for him, since we know ol' Gedleyihlekisa is not much of a reader.

Accordingly, I have removed the e-tag from my car. SANRAL and your ubiquitous VPC, you will be free to send me email after email. Text or Whatsapp me. With apologies to Carly Rae, call me maybe. I shall ignore you. I shall dismiss you. I shall tell your agents that I did not ask for the GFIP, therefore I shall not pay for it.

Until such time as the president stands up and admits that in (another) colossal error of judgment, he has abused public resources, and will do his level best to make reparations, I will place my e-toll money in a suspense account. SANRAL will see none of it.

He doesn't even have to resign, by my reckoning. Just admit he done wrong by us, Msholozi's beloved volk. Of course, by his own admission, that will not happen until Jesus returns, so I think I'm onto a winner.

Regards

SkerP
