I've been following the story of Malema's woes with regards to the ANC - like most South Africans.
Like most thinking South Africans, I've been very happy that the ANC is finally taking a stand. We don't need racist criminals leading the youth (or any other part of our society.) If they're also idiots, we need them even less.
However, the whole saga seems to present the ANC with a tricky situation.
Because quite frankly, the Youth League seems to be outright ignoring everything the ANC tells them to do. The child is rebelling, and we all know that there's only one way to deal with that.
As they say, spare the rod, spoil the child, and the ANC has been sparing the rod too much, for too long.
Even if we ignore the fact that they are one of the most racist, most incendiary, most dangerous pseudo political organisations in South Africa today, there's another issue here.
Basically, the Youth League has given the ANC the finger, and told them they aren't listening to their parent body.
It's like that same child saying to their parents 'screw you, I'm going to keep living in your house, but I'll smoke tik in my room if I want to.'
The only viable solution here is for the ANC to cut ties with the YL. Strip them of the right to use 'ANC' in their name, or to use ANC colours. Remove their status as a political organisation. Subject them to taxation.
Basically, the ANC must turn the Youth League into a private club, that has nothing to do with politics.
I'm not only saying that because of the political damage the Youth League has done, but also because if they're not seen to do SOMETHING concrete to shut their own youth league up, the ANC will lose all credibility here and abroad.
If the parent can't discipline their spoiled, obnoxious children, then how can they possibly govern a country?
Reign in the ANCYL, ANC, or get out of office. It really is that simple.
