To whomever is trying to make Oscar Pistorius’ case into a battle,
I have read comments proclaiming that there isn’t outrage against him because he is white. I have also read some really insensitive comments regarding the tragic event which unfolded Valentine’s morning.
Regarding all of you, this is my view on things.
Firstly, somebody lost their daughter, best friend or aunt. This is not a laughing matter. However, in South Africa, we have become so desensitised to all that is happening around us that some make jokes or weep or do nothing to cope. So I can understand trying to make light of things, even if it is a dire and heart wrenching manner. We have put Oscar Pistorius on a pedestal and now that he had fallen from grace, we need to air our opinions, no matter how vulgar it may seem to some.
Some have said that he is being treated with kid gloves because he is white. I disagree. He has been arrested and sent to court, as all who have been in his position. But please think of the circumstance. He is disabled. Probably unable to get out of bed to go see what is happening. While absolutely uncalled for, I understand his panic of hearing something go bump in the night and assuming the worst. Especially in this country. While he fired four shots, he probably (speculative) shot from his door way, being unable to confront the intruder.
This is a tragedy, and should be treated as such. Until such a time that the truth comes to light.
Whoever wishes to cry foul or joke about this, I do understand where you are coming from. However it is still a tragedy.
