Oscar: Prays to God while girlfriend dies

07 March 2014, 13:51
From yesterday's testimony, we have to ask a horrible question:
Did Oscar intentionally murder Reeva?  If he did, then when the first witness found her, with Oscar's fingers in her mouth, did he do so to prevent her from speaking to the witness or anyone else, and also to perhaps make sure she died.
Note that Oscar's first words to the doctor were an explanation and an excuse, not: "Help her" or "call an ambulance." In other words he was already telling a story, trying to get himself off the hook, even while she was still alive.  What did he say? "I shot her.  I mistook her for a burglar.."This statement may also have shaped and informed the witnesses impression that Oscar's 'remorse' was genuine.
If that sounds farfetched, the witness testified that Reeva had a very tight grip on Oscar's hand, even though she was no longer breathing, and there was no pulse.
Second point.  Assuming Oscar did intentionally murder Reeva, it means his shouting "help" and praying to God was all elaborate theatre.  It means the daily prayer meetings and family prayer huddles, at least from Oscar, and the loud sobbing in court, is part of an ongoing charade.
Is it?
Millions are at stake. His image, worth millions, is at stake, or in his mind, it still is.  So far a lot of witnesses have provided similar, plausible accounts of a woman screaming.  Why should they make up a story?  Who stands the most to gain or lose by making up a story here?  Because very probably Reeva did scream while in the toilet, knowing what was about to happen, and certainly after the first bullet wound.  Forensics show it was the fourth and last bullet that killed her.  It also stands to reason that if he intended to shoot her to death, and that she no longer screamed after the fourth shot, he didn't need to continue shooting. After the head wound she would have fallen down immediately and fallen silent.
We don't know what the build-up of the alleged argument was about, but it was Valentines Day...and it would have taken just a single late night or early morning sms from an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend to set off some sort of conflict.
So either Oscar is innocent, screams like a girl, was afraid in the pitch darkness, made a rapid fire of noises with a bat that sounded like a gun (and was able to deliver them with superhuman speed), and after a quiet, loving evening together, he mistook her for a burglar behind a door (firing four shots), or the couple had an argument, and in a rage, Oscar intentionally shot her, and then acted full of remorse.  The bathroom light was seen to be on when the shots were heard, and if they were awake and arguing throughout the early hours of that morning, the house wouldn't have been pitch dark.
Which sounds more likely to you?
