Is it just me or is this story about Oscar Pistorius getting a bit much?
When 9/11 happened it was a big deal. Like REALLY big. Possibly the biggest deal ever in my life. Well, apart from having sex the first time, which incidentally, happened about the same time. Yet for some reason, I’ve never since gotten tired of having sex, even though I did get tired of hearing about 9/11. That took about two weeks. Two weeks after airplanes were flown into internationally recognizable landmarks, killing thousands, I’d stopped reading about it, stopped watching news footage about it and said nothing in conversations about it. If I recall it was about a month from the dates of the attack that the US went to war, so that was the new story and daily reporting on the attacks that had inspired it, started fading from our collective consciousness. This was best summed up on a now defunct satire website called PointlessWasteOfTime where the author stated that, although terrorist could inflict physical damage to Americans, what they could not do is hold America’s attention.
That’s more or less where I am with Oscargate (come on, you know it’s going to be called that soon enough) now. I’m starting to wonder when the top half of News24’s webpage is going to be devoted to something else. It’s not that I’m not interested in the story, I still am, but unlike yesterday where I updated the tweets from court every few minutes to see what was being said, I don’t think I’ll be doing that today. I’m starting to get Oscar-fatigue. I’m starting to hope for some more news about how the Pope has resigned, or how Zoomer is going to make his bond payments, or anything else. Hell, I’d even settle for something about anal bleaching at this point.
That’s just me though, always wanting to be first with the breaking trends, it’s just the way I roll. Or blade, in this case…
