Reading news reports about the rape of yet another elderly woman, and the indescribably appalling story of a 3-year old girl raped with a live snake simply makes a mockery, again, of the campaign uselessly called (in this country) 16 Days of Activism on No Violence against Women and Children. Both of these crimes occurred within those 16 days, or were at least reported during that period.
How is it possible that these crimes can occur at all, never mind repeatedly , and how are we ever going to stop such horrors, given the absolute disregard for any possible consequences arising these horrendous acts. There simply is no answer, other than to arrange for the permanent removal from society of these monsters. Animals never behave like that, so to call them animals is a misnomer.
Are jail sentences a deterrent? Not at all, in fact in some cases the sentences are ludicrously light, and the perpetrators are released early, for good behaviour. Within weeks, sometimes, they repeat the offence, or commit an even worse atrocity.
It seems to me that the only solution is to institute the death penalty. Rape of a baby or child should carry that sentence, automatically, and rape of elderly women the same. Life and living is for those who respect it, and who respect the right of others to live their lives. No respect should be shown for those who ignore that basic tenet.
