Tuesday was quite interesting right? We had Zwelithini come out swinging with his gay-bashing hammer. Generated more comments than a run-of-the-mill Malema article would.
Being the upstanding citizen that I am, I took it apon myself to stand up for gay rights that day. Particularly on the Sowetan.
Cut to the end of the day. Some friends and I decided to hit Long street for some drinks. There was a new dude seated next to me, a friend of the friends. We all ordered our drinks. I normally have a strawberry daiquiri, but decided to follow the tables trend and opted for a beer instead. The girls had red wine, and the new fella had a martini.
Seeing as how we were not introduced yet, and the dude seemed pretty shy, I decided to open with a classic ice-breaker.
"Thats a pretty gay drink"
Next thing I know, the dude stood up, took his drink, threw it in my face, and proceeded to slap me (couldnt call it punches) thrice on the friggin ear. All the while shouting, that he's gay and that Im an asshole.
He stormed out, all the while mouthing homophobe in my general direction. Which is ironic, because earlier (back to Zwelithini) I mentioned that labels are for clothes, and not people.
Its not my fault that all the kids are calling things 'gay' nowdays. The dude doesnt know me, doesnt know my stance on gay-rights issues, but decided to throw his toys anyways.
So, I guess this is where the moral of the story goes. Dont take yourself so seriously. And this part isnt just directed at an oversensitive gay dude, but everyone in general.
