This past weekend was a weekend most rock fans never thought they’d see. Chicago rockers Chevelle made sure we got it with their powerful performance in both Cape Town and Jo’burg.
It takes me back to when we’d spam Big Concert’s Facebook wall “Bring this band. Bring that band.”
I attended the Cape Town gig and there was one thing that made me cringe– empty seats. I’m talking about blocks of empty seats.
There exists no excuse for those empty seats.
1) 1) People will always complain about “no decent live acts” coming to SA. The moment a good band comes – tickets are difficult to sell.
2) 2) I stood in the Golden Circle which btw, was the cheapest Golden Circle ticket I have ever heard of: R 450-00! Really people!?
Like honestly people, that’s truly embarrassing.
These artists travel so far because they are in demand and then they are greeted with empty seats.
I’m not saying pack it to the rafters – although that is what should happen but not empty seating blocks. That’s just pathetic.
At the Red Hot Chili Peppers gig in February, my entire block (the one right across the stage) was empty. It was just lonely me sitting there.
Empty seats shouldn’t become a habit otherwise we won’t see these awesome live acts again soon.
