I have always believed that the profession of psychology originated from the confessional at church. There sits Father Gin in a cubicle, at the side of the Vatican, bound by spiritual cleanliness and oath, to be the medium between mankind and the higher power to purge those who have committed a sin and never to be repeated.
However, as communities grew and the queue outside the confessional became longer, the priest started recognising patterns of behaviour, and as the Vatican does, saw an opportunity to make money out of this psychosis and decided to develop the hypocratic oath. With empirical data to draw conclusions, Father Gin could Hail Mary and Sickmind Fraud was born.
Along comes Oprah on the pay networks, giving her interpretation to the confessions of mankind but there was no Hail Mary. Still the Vatican is enjoying royalties from the patented idea.
As society is so fast paced and essentially consumerism, pathologies are diagnosed according the Medical handbook of psychology (sic). So, as you can have pay-as-you-go- (Airtime, electricity, etc), we should acknowledge pay-as-you-go-psychology.
