It won’t be pleasant, but that’s just how I see things, I would hope that most of it is true, I hope our bourgeoisie take note - I aim to pull no punches this time so please stop reading right now if you’re a sensitive reader – let me state in no uncertain terms the kind of people who annoy the living hell out me these days:
Top amongst those are the brothers (PoC) without backbones, let’s abbreviate and save us all some time (PoC =People of Colour, Indians, Coloureds, Blacks/Africans and ummmm well, Chinese now isn’t it?)
I’m talking about the tame souls who no longer see the need to be proactive in the fight for a better life for all, some are in politics lining their own pockets, some are in the private sector (mostly professionals) quietly docile and nervously grinning away any tricky questions that come their way, they have newly discovered golf and rugby and try their level best to distance themselves from the rest of the masses who still sleep with empty tummies, raid dirt-bins trying to eke out a living any which way they can.
More disturbing is that some of these professionals are now sometimes at the forefront, leading the apologist who excuse the heart-breaking economic situation of vast race-based income disparities, they have sold their souls which to me, is Unforgivable. The less said about those in government eating by themselves (having long forgotten the noble ideals of the Freedom Charter), abusing money that could have uplifted millions of poor people etc, the better – Hey! I told you I ain’t pulling no punches!
Seems like we’ve forgotten that WE are in government now, so why do we not do everything needed (amend the Constitution if need be why don’t we?) fix inherited problems? It boggles me no end why we can’t and don’t.
Next on the list are the European liberals who say things like “I know apartheid was bad, and I don’t deny the vast inequalities BUT…” Always a ‘BUT” for heaven’s sake people, it was bad, it gave rise to most of our problems today, it has almost certainly sentenced generations of generations to lives of uncertainty and conflict so let’s drop the “BUT” okay? Understood?
Another annoying, very annoying comment oft spoken is this one “Let’s move beyond race” Oh! A nobler thing was never spoken; can we really succeed given the fact that the root causes of all our problems have still not been properly addressed? Namely that 80% of JSE shares and land is Still owned by a minority? Mostly all the lucrative positions and decision-making jobs in the private sector are Still reserved for and held by the same minority.
Pet hate number 3, the comment by Europeans “We’re now disadvantaged by BEE” ..ummmm well, if Only that was true (read above).. We All love Nelson Mandela and it was his right to forgive, 27 years in prison can break anyone’s resolve, I guess, may God Bless and have mercy on his soul, However we no longer have to keep lying to ourselves when the facts stare us in the face.
On a related note – someone once told me that the only way he knew how to get rich is to go to the bank and take out a loan and start a business like his mom and dad did – well, that may be so, but he didn’t mention that my mom and dad were Not given loans, Not allowed to own land and were held back by law from competing with the business his mom and dad had started and with which they’ve managed to corner the market given their 100 year headstart and previous government support - with catching up made worse by the price of property which effectively makes it nigh impossible to call us both apples or both pears.
Lastly what annoys me no end is when people say things like “I’m Not White enough, Not Black enough” mostly from the Coloured community, wth!? Were you advantaged? Were you not disadvantaged by apartheid? How come you don’t know? Why are you so confused?
To expect favours from anyone is the downfall, nobody is going to make you a priority so you have to quit feeling sorry for yourself, be proactive in politics, fight for your rights tooth and nail, very few Black African brothers will stand for you, if any would, these days most job opportunity pies are cut in two: go to Edgars, Woolworths, Pick n’ Pay, you hardly even get the low –paying jobs with long hours - your fight is going to be the hardest, a long unending one and you dare not roll over and play victim when God has blessed you to be born warriors! You Must demand your fair share too & roll over for no man.
If we keep lying to ourselves we weaken our debates which means that in 20 tears time we’ll Still be in the exact same boat we’re in now, or even on a more rickety one sinking us all…. With each failure and passing day, the proletariat gain strength, do not give them No choice. Let’s be honest.
